PUEBLOS & PETROGLYPHS

Ancient Puebloan cultures lived in the Southwest from approximately 800-1285 AD. These cultures are believed to derived from Anasazi (from the north) and Mayan (from the south). Various theories say they left due to drought, war, famine or disease, but dendrochronology (the study of tree rings) tells us that there was a prolonged drought in the Southwest in the late 1200's. The Hopi, who say they are descendants of the ancient Puebloan culture simply say that it was time for them to move on.

House on Fire

This ancient pueblo ruin appears to have a burning roof. The ancient Puebloans of the American Southwest lived without insurance, instead relying on signs of change as to when it was time to leave their burning house.

Fallen Roof Ruin

Any shelter has its inherent risks. Fallen Roof Ruin occasionally loses part of its ceiling as evidenced by tiles of sandstone in the foreground. May your house always remain a safe haven with minimal risks.

Pureblo Corridor

It is unusual for these cliffside ancient ruins to have an inner corridor. This remote pueblo takes a bit of work to access, but the reward is this reasonably undisturbed ruin that has been in existence for 800 years.

Cliff Palace

The Cliff Palace is perhaps the most famous and well restored pueblo in all of the Southwest.
