Beside Still Waters

Our eyes can find many forms in the lakeside dells around Watson Lake and Willow Lake in Prescott. Let yourself examine the image until you find lasting meaning! This image may be cropped for a 1:2 aspect ratio panorama. It looks particularly good in larger sizes as a focal point to a room with a darker wall.

My Quiet Place

My favorite tree makes an appearance in this spectacular sunrise picture at Watson Lake. The island in the foreground is only reachable by kayak during higher water levels. Alas, this beautiful tree is currently in sad shape to the disappointment of photographers who travel from great distances to photograph it. Also look in the monochrome gallery where it is featured as the main subject.

Monsoon Enough

I had tracked this monsoon cell as it headed north from Phoenix. It was headed north from Prescott Valley when it made a left turn and headed straight at us at on the bluff above Watson Lake. Within minutes of this exposure we were in our car being deluged by the fierce storm. There weren't many monsoons that summer, but this was monsoon enough.

Far Shore

The dells on the northeast shore of Watson Lake are complemented by the attractive sky in this telephoto capture.

Rooted Firmly

This little cottonwood has been the most photographed tree in Prescott. It has survived for years with its roots growing into a crack in its boulder island. The tree is not doing so well today, after being ravaged by drought, wind and hailstorms in 2021.

The Granite Dells around Watson Lake provide many opportunities to hike on trails and climb over boulders to discover their full beauty.

I felt comfortably safe stationed safely six miles away from the storm cell. Then this monster flash hit less than a mile away. It was time to head to safety of the car where I reminded myself of the unpredictable nature of lightning. When I processed the image I decided the lightning was shaped like a much needed rain dancer.
