REINVENTING ONESELF

In the previous Photoboomers Newsletter I indicated that I would be taking some time off from writing. As it turns out, I have photographed very little other than at my Grand Canyon monsoon workshop in August and as a tourist in Europe for ten days. This article describes some of the process have been experiencing. While doing these things we have actually found some value in referring back to previous articles, in particularly those on Wall Art Previews and Lighting Prints. The virtual preview of art on our walls has insured that are choices are the right size. We are adding around 30 new light fixtures to our home, in part to properly show off wall art. The lighting article has been updated to reflect new information.

August and September were hard work, preparing one house for sale, packing, moving, unpacking, but they are also my Coca-Cola. In other works, they were “The Pause That Refreshes”.  Read the article

VACATIONS AND PHOTOGRAPHY

Should photographers take a camera on vacation that is not planned around photography? The answer to this varies, but since many tourists take cameras, I chose to take mine. One camera, one small lens, no tripod. And Barbara took hers, too, so I wasn't a complete bore about it. Taking a camera helps you see things others don't see, but I will admit it helps you miss things others do see. Clearly, if your camera interferes with the pleasure of the ones you are traveling with, you should keep it in your pocket. Speaking of pockets, we found that they get picked often in crowded places like the alleyways of Venice and the villages of Santorini. Do your best to avoid these crowded places. But, if you must go, wear a crossbody shoulder bag with your valuables right over your heart. Even then, you may be a victim!

This image of Venice was taken this summer while the nearby square was flooded with seawater.. If you would like it for your walls, contact me. You will not find it on the website.

I MISSED FALL!

This is the first year in about a dozen that I have not photographed fall colors in Colorado, Utah, Arizona, California or along the Blue Ridge Parkway. A review of some of those past fall images has helped address the loss. Some favorites are now posted in a Fall Portfolio on the website.

But fall isn't over in some of the warmer areas of the country. Look for some colorful fall images by my Caddo Lake photography workshop participants in the next issue. And, if you haven't been to a swamp before, you can get a flavor now by viewing the new movie, Caddo Lake, available on MAX.

The image below will give you a bit of the feel of the swamp. The snake is added using AI.

WORKSHOPS

All workshops are custom designed for small groups of photographers, usually three or four, but a maximum of six. These workshops are planned around our mutual timing, not just my timing. Because I don't advertise, you save. Because you are with friends, there is more good natured fun! Just the days you want and a very reasonable cost! Request your preferred times early. Offerings are limited each year.

UPCOMING TRAVEL

Our upcoming travel will be limited and local until need a break from our new digs...likely next summer when the heat turns up again.
