PRIORITIES

Retirement to me means moving from one stage of life to another. Dentistry was my work passion for forty-five years. Now photography is my play passion. By play, I mean able to do it for fun. Putting out a newsletter on a time schedule is not always fun, so after this month, I will be publishing issues on a less frequent basis. But some will come. If you are new to the newsletter, I apologize. Please read through a previous issue or two....there is still a lot there.

GRAND CANYON'S SOUTH RIM E-BOOK

Much of my photography time this past quarter has been spent writing an e-book titled Every Photographer's Guide to Grand Canyon's South Rim. This is quite an extensive 156 page guide with preparation, safety, weather, gear and location information. With the help of Time Wier, Publisher of Photography Trail Guides, it is now available for any photographer to purchase and download online

THE GRAND CANYON AS I SEE IT VIDEO

For those of you who just enjoy looking at photography, I put together a video slide show that is now available on YouTube. It features many images of the Grand Canyon that are included in the ebook and some that are not. I was motivated to put this together after a friend shared that he recently took visitors to the Grand Canyon, just a couple of hours from where we live. One of his young adult guests took a quick look at the giant hole in the ground and was then ready to go on to the next event of the day, perhaps lunch! That reminded me of how I was not all that overwhelmed at my first visit.

But as I have now spent many hours watching and capturing the ever changing landscape of the canyon, it has grown on me like friends grow on us. The video tries to express this and a bit more with my amateurish attempt to add poetry to the show. The show is about 5.5 minutes long. NEGATIVE CLARITY

previous article discussed the value of creating depth in your images and described both in-the-field and post processing techniques that help accomplish this goal. This adds a technique to create depth in post processing using the Clarity Slider. The recent addition of the Object Selection has greatly simplified this technique. Rather than increasing clarity of the main subject...READ MORE
