Photoboomers Newsletter

ISSUE 3 - December 2021

Each month we will have articles of interest to budding “senior” photographers (aka Photoboomers), experienced enthusiasts and those who appreciate art. There is no minimum age requirements to join in with us, but if you are in the Instasnapper category, you might not understand the way we talk. Try Photoboomers for a bit and see if you like it!

November's Print of the Month winner is waltorellana. Be sure to look at the next Print of the Month at the bottom of this newsletter. By opening this email you are automatically entered for next month's drawing. We use the Random Number Generator (RNG) App to determine the winner.

THE ART OF COMMENTS

The Art of Comments

Photographers as a whole are used to viewing comments as this is our main source of dopamine when we aren’t in the field shooting. Nevertheless, I’m trying to wean myself from Facebook. I have a fear of commenting, missing posts, and missing comments and not knowing when to say “Happy Birthday!” The rules seem to be different for commenting by a “friend friend” on another friend, by a “friend friend” on a photographer, and by a “friend photographer” on another photographer (who often is more of a colleague friend). READ MORE…

COVER THAT PRINT

Museum Glass

If you have ever dug up an old newspaper out of the attic, or tried to take a photo out of the album you put together 40 years ago, you have noticed some changes. Not in your ability to find the darn things, but in the colors. The newspaper has browned. Those treasured photos have faded. The primary reason for that fading is that most paper made from pulp has a chemical called a lignin added. Lignin is sensitive to light and acid.  READ MORE...

TRIPOD SELECTION

You have decided on a camera and lenses. The third essential to enjoying your photography hobby is a tripod. A tripod allows you to create images that can not be made otherwise. For some moving subject photography, such as wildlife and sports photography, a monopod might also be useful. It is possible to specialize in just about any genre without using a tripod. sheepish

Sometimes it's fun to venture beyond landscape photography. While driving some back roads in Texas we happened upon these critters that were, well, rather sheepish, about having their picture taken. I had to look at the cow in the nearby pasture as I approached after discovering that sheep run when you look at them. A few images from our trip to see family in Texas have been added to my portfolio.

December Trips Scheduled:

We will be homebodies, entertaining children and grandchildren and hoping for a bit of snow. We will be back on the road for a couple of weeks in January.

Note that I will be reducing my posts on Facebook and greatly increasing my posts on Instagram AT THE NEW ACCOUNT...@robstrainphoto

Feel free to share this newsletter by forwarding it to friends! Thanks much! Rob
